Default Removing the purple air dry marker

I used the purple air dry marker on a quilt border and it did not come out after several days. Is there a way to remove it? I tried a damp cloth on a small section and that seems to have made it more visible. Will it get worse if I wash it? I'm sure someone has had this problem before so look for your good advice before I make things worse.
