Do you know how hard it is to have to run to the Post Office, stand in line to wait for a package that a signature is required when you work all day? Especially this time of year. I have never had a problem with packages left on my front porch. Maybe it is where I live, but running to the Post Office is much more of a hassle then taking the chance of having something happen on the porch. If a store requires a signature when delivered I will not buy from them.
