no, your gift doesn't have to be quilt related, if you know anything about your receiver. They might like something they could use for everyday, or for Christmas, unless they are non-christian.
In my humble opinion, though, quilt related makes for a more sure bet.
We do know that every santa swapper is a quilter :wink:
