Hobbs can be washed with no problem on cold. I wash my bed quilt just like the rest of my laundry, in a front loader, on gentle, in cold, and dry slightly on warm, then finish over a drying rack. It has a slight shrinkage, but as my fabrics were not washed first, the "puckered" look is the traditional appeal I was going for.
