My introduction to paper piecing was a class taught with the pattern Indian Summer by Judy Niemeyer. This pattern was designed for beginners. It makes a beautiful quilt, pieces are fairly large, goes together easily.

I love the Judy Niemeyer patterns. I don't think her instructions are the best, however. I'd recommend either taking a class, getting someone to show you, or getting a good book to explain paper piecing. Judy Doak's books are highly recommended. I highly recommend using the add-a-quarter ruler too. Have fun!
