Default Need some restoration help please...

This quilt is one of 4 things I have from my father's side of the family. I also have 2 pictures of him (I've never actually met him or any of his family), and I am named after his little sister. I only learned of the existence of this quilt a few years ago, before I started quilting. My grandma saved it when she saw my mother about to throw it in the trash when I was very young. My other grandma (his mother) made this for me... As a quilter, I can see the love that went into all those hand stitches. It needs a lot of help and being a new quilter, I'm not sure where to begin... The binding is completely gone... The fabric the applique is on is very thin and I don't think it will last. I have never done hand applique before, so I am afraid to move them to a better fabric. I want to restore this and pass it down to my children... Any hints, tips, suggestions and flat out directions are very welcome...
Thank you in advance!
