Beautiful quilt and great choice of colors/fabrics. For backing I'd probably go with one of the blues. Your Mom is going to LOVE this! I can't even begin to help with how to quilt - I'm still so new at anything other than SID.
I have the pattern but haven't made one yet and seeing this I'm even more anxious to get started. It will happen sometime in 2013!
