I've done this, too!! I made cushions that were around 3" square and the walnut shells will keep pins sharp! I've seen small packages (enough for 1-2 cushions) at various LQS for $4-$5... but the large bag of walnut shells I found at an aquarium/pet store was $10 (if I remember correctly) and I've made at least 8-10 cushions and have enough shells to make that many more! They make lovely little gifts and everyone loves how the cushions are weighted and good for pins!
