I think you could get away with any color that is the same or super close to a color in the quilt. Because you have a lot of pink and blue my first choices would be a very very soft yellow or white muslin.
I think much would depend on the look you're going for too...pale yellow would give it more of a vintage/antique look while white could go traditional/modern/vintage.
