Some machines are straightstitch only so if someone wanted to do some decorative work, they would need a machine with fancy stitches (unless they were good at threadplay).
That's exactly why I have more than one! lol. Although I love love love my Juki for piecing it by far does a better fmq job than my other machines so I reserve it for that purpose, I have a combo machine that I leave set up for embroidery and another machine for piecing.
