Are the tension discs spooned together or are they flat side to flat side? It also does matter which way the needle goes, but it sounds like you have that right. I just got one of mine out of the shop because I couldn't get the tension right. They SMG said he had a hard time doing it, as well. I think you just have to play wth it. It sews great now. Gotta love the old ladies!
