You are not alone. I often work with one shoe on and one shoe off working the pedal. It just seems like I have better fine control when I can feel the pedal under my foot, with my foot. I do just wear thin socks sometimes to ward off frost bite but a little heater blowing on my feet lets me keep to the bare foot style of quilting.
