I agree ...that's what I was thinking while looking at it. Flying geese going all around the center block. No sashing on the blocks. Then depending on how large you want it ... experiment with adding a narrow border then perhaps a larger pieced border (piano keys, triangles ... etc).
Also, might suggest moving the tree to the top corner. That way you have "real things" in all four corners and all the other blocks in-between.
It's very pretty!
