Why wouldn't this work the same, except instead of turning over the sides in quarters, you did it in thirds?

I'm vaguely remembering something about 2 circles, sewn right sides together , leave an opening, turn inside out, and then turn over the edges and sew them down.

The turn-down sides on the front would be fromthe back fabric.
I think the batting was included as well, so it was like birthing the block.
The batting was a triangle, not the whole circle, so you didn't have any excess bulk.
It was a QAYG version.
You then zigzag the triangles together (sort of like EPP).

eta: LOL! I don't know if that made ANY sense at all.
