That is very, very cool.
Looks like you make the block the same way as that (ubiquitous) 10 minute block, but with a larger square in the middle.
Sandwich, quilt the grid lines to lock down the inner square, and then turn the edges back.
That quilting is very effective - the piece has whole North African vibe to it
