Jan---your quilt is really pretty! I like the little blocks in the borders and your initials too. Great balance of colors.
I made some good progress on my PC blocks today (for my "blue" quilt...the one w/blue sashings). I have the center all squared up, plus all but 7 of the blocks sashed....here are a couple pictures:

I talked to the coach at practice tonight and he said go with the red for the backing, cotton batting and tie it. I am going to try to find a red embroidery thread to match too. Thanks for all the comments. He is pretty excited to have it done. I have some mending to do before actually layering. I am thinking I will start it in March or April. This month is for my PC quilts.
QE--you posted while I was typing...yes all the embroidery is done by hand. I have no idea how old it is. I am taking it to work tomorrow to see if anyone there has any thoughts.
