QuiltE I am no longer a lead foot. When we lived in the Northern Territory we had no speed limit, yes you read it right we had road signs that were white with a black line through the middle and that meant open speed. Having said that each year before paying our vehicle registration we had to have our cars checked for road worthiness.
We lived 310 miles from a major city and I travelled that distance regularly, the quickest time was 3 hours and 40 minutes
but then I thought I had a blood clot in my leg and had to go to the hospital for scans, but my regular time was about 4 hours. I should have been medivacced out of town but that is a whole other story
They have now put a speed limit on the open highway and it is 80 mpm
Since moving back to Queensland I am very aware that the speed limit is only 60 mph on the highways, but boy does it seem slow sometimes.
