Ah, I understand now. Mariner's compass and twilight star blocks are traditionally pieced round. For that small a size you will most likely have to draft your own. Judy Mathieson has a great book that teaches you how and includes a pattern for I believe a 6" size. But you still will have to turn under the edge and applique it on once done Well you could piece it in. I've done that. It takes a ton of pins and patience though and I have never successfully done it without at least one pucker. Much easier to piece in 1/4 rounds like NY Beauty or Drunkards path. Is your dresden still in pieces? If so you could join it to the point it is in 1/4 circles then figure out a pieced unit for the 1/4 center. MC could work.

The very center of the MC in this quilt was pieced but then appliqued over the center hole.
