Seam 2 Seam has a light fusible so does Wonder Under. If your applique is made with big pieces I've even used fusible interfacing sewn on wrong side together. Then make a slit in back turn and iron it to your background fabric. No raw edges and it gives a boost without bulk. The idea came from Elenor Burns when she did her Sunbonnet Sue quilt.
