she is correct....I drew this out on paper and while the tip is cut off a bit, the intersection of the seams on the two side angles hits right at the quarter inch mark...what the author appears to be doing is cutting off your dog ears (or rabbit ears) as you cut your triangles - that means you don't have to trim them off before using your quarter inch foot.
