I think you can do it, but it's best to keep the amount of quilting to an absolute minimum. I'm thinking even a meander would be too much. I saw one that had been done with straight lights across the quilt (I imagine using a walking foot), and it was adorable. (Front was wide strips going across, so she just followed the piecing pattern.)
