I have a Viking 6020 and it's a workhorse! Nothing else like the low gear it has. I got it at a thriftstore for $5 because it had a cracked internal cam. Of course they did not know that until I showed it to them. It had just been left at their door that morning with a note that said "needs work". It came with the foot control, manual, A cam, standard foot and 1 bobbin. I had the cracked cam replaced- it's a known weakness in these machines. Viking stopped producing the replacement parts after the last one was 25 years old. However, there is decent aftermarket model. There is also an industrial bobbin that works great, I got some from my tech who did the work. I got a few feet from a friend who had extras, and the extra cams on ebay. Then last summer I was lucky and found the accessory tray and attachments at an estate sale for $3.00, no sign of the machine they came from. I just grabbed them fast.

Mine dates to about 1970, it was TOL for it's time and the beginning of the 6000-series. In the next model, the 6030, they introduced self-oiling bearings. I prefer the 6020 for that reason as it is more user-maintainable.

I also recommend the Yahoo group (true, no "chit chat" allowed. Just Viking info). The moderator, Bill Holman, knows a lot about Vikings and the files section has a lot of resources. They also have a recommended tech list and I connected with the one who worked on mine - he's an hour from my house and did a great job. Spend some time reading in the message archive, your questions have probably been answered before.
