This a tougher question than you think. There is paper foundation piecing where you stitch your fabric onto the paper shape and remove it from the back before sewing your blocks together.
There is paper piecing where you have a printed paper pattern that you sew through to make a certain design on the reverse side for a block.
There is paper-less paper piecing that you sew beside the printed paper pattern to make a certain design block.
