I use an old desk top (like a small dining table). But now it's piled with boxes, with a cutting board on top of that. That worked well, until more stuff got piled on top of that (any flat surface is destined to be covered with junk).

I won't allow the newer junk furniture into my house. It's particleboard with a plastic veneer, and it reeks of formaldehyde and whatever else that outgases from it. It triggers my asthma.

I also have one of the plastic tables 6' long. I use it for sewing, and it doubles as an extension to my dining table. I have one of the smaller folding craft tables. It is stable enough for cutting, but not for sewing, because the table jumps all over the floor when the sewing machine is running.
