Just had a thought: have you thought about adding another wider pieced border with the same fabrics as there are in the quilt and using that wavy ruler - doing the border wavy to match the quilt? The curves are very shallow, so it shouldn't be too difficult to bind. Before you went to all the trouble of doing another border and then using the ruler, you could just cut a few blocks with the wavy ruler and lay them on the outside edge to see how it looks. As I said - just a thought.
If the ruler is used to do a wave border, then you could cut from two pieces of fabric and sew the two colors together on the curved sides and then there would be a straight side to sew to the quilt and a straight side for binding. Or, anyway that is how I understand the demo.
