The second one looks more like typical bargelloes to me. my eyes go to the white middle and then out to the edges of the quilt. Like a painting, it's better to bring ones eyes into the picture rather than bring them to the outside edges.
I like number one better, more unusual, light/airy and full of movement and the wings at the edges bring my eyes to the middle...
