I want to get brave and try this but afraid of messing up a quilt. When I bought my embroider machine last weekend the sales woman said lots of people use a large embroidery hoop from any fabric store and just keep moving it from area to area. Has anyone ever done this and is it successful.

What the sales woman is describing sounds like FMQ using a hoop. You need to purchase the correct hoop for your machine to embroider a design or use an embroidery design to quilt a sandwich.
