I've been on the fabric wagon since October 2001, so it had to be before that.
I bought from here:

She has a closeout section and had 50 fats for $50.00
I made 3 thirties quilts out of it and sent the last of the scraps to Australia. Three is enough from any fabric!
I recommend the store service though
