Default Help for newby please.

I am pretty new to quilting doing only a few log cabins with the Eleanor Burns book.
I wanted to do something different, so I bought a quilt kit with all the pieces precut. It has many shapes that of course I have never done before. It has been challenging and I did a lot of ripping.
I am working on the last block and things aren't fitting. I followed the directions carefully and made sure I use 1/4 in seam. I can't match the seams because the top and bottom are much bigger. I haven't sewn them together and I obviously need to rip the toop and bottom apart, but what am I doing wrong that the 2 pieces are this far off?

Thanks for any help.
