Just a thought, did you square up the center part before you added the flying geese units. This would tell you if the sides matched to the flying geese, if not you could center the square and trim the pieces are it. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure I know what you mean. I measured the pieces and they were the size the pattern said they should be.
