It depends on what you are going to use them for. If it is to go in clothing then the I ribbon idea would be nice because it isn't scratchy. I have used my machines small embroidered letters on grosgrain ribbon to make labels. Mine was just a name and I embroidered it down a whole length of ribbon and then cut it into sections and sewed the ends into a seam.
