I just got the 24 x 24 rotary cutting mat, with a handle and several additional patterns printed on it, from Wal Mart for $10.99 because they are eliminating most of their sewing areas! I had been eyeing the ones at JoAnns for a while but couldn't afford one!
Can't hurt to shop where you'd least expect!
