Whilst I do make "planned quilts" and when visiting the QB never fail to be impressed by the wonderful work of the quilters here. Somehow scrappies and antique/old fashioned quilts and waggas (Aussie scrappies), Gees Bend and the work of the Tutwiler quilters seem to draw me in. As mentioned by others...scrappies and the like evoke comfort and warmth....even happiness. I also have a love of the written word....so I thought I'd share one of my favourite poems, Pied Beauty. Sort of sums up the "scrappies" of the world
Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-1889)
Pied Beauty
Glory be to God for dappled things—
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches' wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough;
And áll trades, their gear and tackle and trim.
All things counter, original, spáre, strange;
Whatever is fickle, frecklčd (who knows how?)
With swíft, slów; sweet, sóur; adázzle, dím;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is pást change:
Práise hím.
