Default My Take On a Storm At Sea Quilt for a Heart Defect Survivor “Wear Red for Katie”

A friend of mine has a baby girl who is now 18 months old. In brief, at 6 weeks Katie was in the hospital for respiratory issues, a day or 2 into the stay, stopped breathing, 105 minutes of constant CPR her heart started back beating on its own. The Dr’s then told her parents that Katie had several different types of heart defects. After another setback, she had a pacemaker implanted, blood transfusions, etc. In her mom’s words, “I don't know what the future has in store but I DO know that God has provided us a wonderful miracle, 'just in case' you didn't already know.”

Speed up to January 2013, Katie’s mom asked if she could commission me to make Katie a Heart Defect Survivor Quilt. No, I couldn’t do that but I would be honored to make her a quilt. We talked about colors (red and blue) and what ‘should’ be on it (heart, survivor ribbon) – and this is my interpretation of Katie’s quilt. The family has not seen this – I just finished the binding last nite. I will gift this quilt to them Tuesday or Wednesday.

I have to say I was inspired and encouraged and tutored by QB’s Dawn and her quilt – http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...g-t189680.html
Never having paper pieced, she provided me MUCH guidance and knowledge. A special thanks to her!
White on White back with swirly hearts quilted with white thread. The Red has teeny colored hearts...too cute!
I’m excited to get to gift this quilt to this special little girl! Thanks for looking!
