I've used this method for summer baby blankets but see no reason why this method would not work for your quilt.
I just discovered another you tube video entitled "how to make a flannel baby blanket" and you wouldn't even have to birth your quilt. Although it doesn't show the use of a batting it could be easily be sandwiched in.
