Ckcowl, I used flannel for the backing and cotton batting ( warm and natural - it's something warm in the title ). I learned about the use of flannel as batting after I made this one. My next rag quilt ( for the dog) will have flannel for batting- I am eager to see how this turns out. I sewed the seams 1/2 inch and cut the seams every 1/4 to 1/2 inch apart. That's good to know about the length. Thanks
