The thinness of the batting is what is called loft. Most use one layer. Cotton tend to be thinner than polyester batting, so if you want a more full puffy looking batting you would go poly or cotton poly blend. You can use 2 layers if you want but some thin battings when quilted can have quite a bit of weight to them. Hobbs 80/20 has a nice dimension to it without being to thick. The batting you chose is very similar to war and natural.
