you could also use the rubberized shelf liner, just cute 2 pieces to fit the size of your hands and lay them on your quilt vola!
Just be careful. I got going all "in the zone" and promptly sewed the edge of the shelf liner to my quilt. I love the idea of the erasers or the sponges, because it will be hard to do that, or catch a finger with everything raised. Easier for little ones to learn safely too.
