You don't need software to download from the internet. You just need it if you want to digitize, enlarge a design, split a design, or play with density on a design. The machine can embroider anything as long as it is in the correct size and format. You just download the design, unzip it, store it on your zip drive, and plug the zip drive in the machine. I do recommend getting the 4x4 and 6x6 hoop as I have used those lots already. kenssewingcenter.com has good prices on accessories and stabilizer and shipping is always free. they have a starter pack for 40 bucks on stabilizer. Its a nice starter pack for basic stabilizer.
