Loose threads come from the sides of the pieces of material.
There are no loose (or even long attached) threads involved in the stitching I do on a quilt top and ravelling fabric edges are generally not a problem with good quality fabric and accurate cutting. What few loose threads there may be are not worth trimming in my opinion. I'm convinced trimming just makes the edges ravel more anyway.
Once sandwiched and quilted, no one sees what's on the inside of my quilts so what possible difference does it make if I don't waste time and weaken seams by trimming the seam allowances unnecessarily? Loose threads on the outside are a whole different story.
