Thanks for asking carol. The machine is a Bernina 440 QE. I dropped the feet dogs and used the normal fmq darning foot. Then the stitches length are governed by how fast you step on the petal and how fast you move your work around. Which is what any machine will do. I used the same color thread both in top and bottom.

I used my "quilting gloves" I bought at the drug store, called fabric gardening gloves that have the little plastic dots on the palm. Then I relaxed and drew the flowers with the thread. I gave myself permission to make whatever sized flower that would fit into and area and just scribbled flowers until the quilt was finished. Now, I am not stupid, this is not going to take any prizes, but, for practice and for speed, this was a winner in my mind's eye for this charity quilt.

I hand drew the fmq'ing flower out for you gals if you want to try it. I tell you it was so easy to go from one to the other without hardly thinking. I hope this gives you all permission to scribble on your practice quilts and that you get as addicted as I am to this design. It is so fun! You can make as few or as many petals as you need for an area, and remember you are a kid having fun. No one is gonna die if each flower isn't perfect.
