Anyway, my query in relation to your response Glenn, which may be silly - but isn't the black paint black japan? Is there a reason why you wouldn't use this? I only ask because I have heaps left over from doing our floors and I presumed it was the same stuff.
Japan on these old machines was baked on stuff like asphalt but the black testors paint is a good match also the the aniline dye in black with shellac will give you a look more like the japan finish.
