To answer a few questions:
--the tiny 9 patches are finished at 1.5 inches, just a little bigger than a quarter.
--the size of the quilt before any borders is 60 inches by 78 inches.
--I am not entirely sure how much white is used as I lost track after a while (I started with about 2 yards of one kind, 1 yard of two others and 3 yards of one then used fat quarters of 3 more prints and then had to wash up more of two prints and used most of that). The pattern calls for 9 yards of white or off white for this part of the quilt and that is probably pretty close to what I used.
--I used 54 different batik prints for the "solids". I used fat quarters for all of these and still have more than half of the FQ left so plenty for another quilt or two. I have been thinking about a Jewel Box quilt.
I did mitered border corners in a bordering class at my LQS last year and they didn't turn out nice at all. I suppose I will need to hone this skill so I can put the borders in one application. I know that is a good skill to have when you are doing a vine type border so I should learn it anyway.
