I would be tempted to try 2 white borders (one narrower than the other) with a narrow colored border between. I would probably wait to see how that looked before selecting binding. Please be sure to post when done.
That is what I would do too. Because I am partial to red, that is the color I would audition first.
For binding, I think white would be perfect. It would just be an extension of your outer white boarder. You have so much going on now, simplicity would be the best frame for your beautiful quilt top.
