There are several ideas on the QB if you want to do a search.

Questions are:
- do you want it permanent or portable?
- what size do you want?
- how pretty do you want it to be?

I've used a flannel backed tablecloth in the past but found I had to pin the blocks on it and preferred it for taking projects to a sew-in instead of at home.

I had a friend help me and we made a 8 ft x 8 ft design wall out of 2 4ft x 8 ft pieces of foam insulation duct taped hinged together so I could fold it and store it behind a very tall bookcase. We covered it in batting and then later I gridded it with ribbon. I love it.

Another quilting friend has her design wall mounted onto her wall permanently.

I would expect the space available would determine what decided to do.
