Laughed when I read this and remembered when our first was born in 1967. My mother came to help us and was at the hospital when the Dr. discharged us. He told her in no uncertain terms that she was there to keep the house running NOT to cuddle and spoil the baby. She followed his instructions to the letter. Husbands fondest memories of it is that she showered him with homemade pies.
We did give her a break and let her hold him as much as she wanted.
