they have a phoenix maual here for a 283. from what I have seen most manuals run 15-25 bucks.these I think are for 10 bucks. Some brands work simialr maybe these might be of some help. that guy is not one to deal with for sure. sorry ran out of time to search further for today, good luck ravonda

I think I found a Phoenix manual 282 for free. It is not the same beast but it might be some kind of help. Does that Phoenix have the bobbin case with a door on it? It took me a while to figure out thread had to go through a little loop in the case. Here is the manual I found for free:
