If you are breaking needles it is probably because you are moving the machine a bit too fast. If the needle is not all the way out of the fabric and you move it, it catches the fabric and can bend the needle. It only takes a tiny deflection in the needle to hit the foot and break. Also, what kind of foot are you using?
