HMMM, I know that a piece of backing fabric that was over sprayed about a year ago is still tacky. I would think it would help until it picked up too many fuzzies. I would then wipe it off with the alcohol (if it wasn't a ruler with markings on it) and re-spray. I would try rubbing the ruler first with a little alcohol to make sure it didn't harm the ruler before using the 505.
