Turning = put right sides together (with batting on the wrong side of either front or back), sew most of the way around edge, turn. I haven't done it with a large piece, have a friend who's done it often with lap/throw size quilts (usually backed with fleece and no batting). I haven't tried it. I can see it working pretty well with a firm-ish batting.
